References

There are a few websites I would like to mention/reference:

Custom PC Builder | Newegg

This is actually the first thing that came to mind when I was starting this project. I found it odd I could not find an aquarium builder online similar to what newegg pc builder does for computers.

Custom Aquarium Configurator

This website is pretty nice but it is for an entirely custom build, not one you piece together yourself. Still has a lot of nice stuff and reminded me I can do more than just freshwater planted aquariums (example salt and paludariums).

Home | My Aquarium Builder

I mentioned this one on the System page, but it is probably the best "builder" website and most comparable one I have seen. I actually found this right before I started my project and rather than deter me thinking "it has already been done" it actually motivated me more to see if I could make something myself close to that level.

Build Your Tank | PetSmart

I do not know when they implemented their "build your tank" feature, but I think it is pretty recent. I did not realize that petsmart mostly sells kits (at least based on the options in the builder) rather than all individual components. I originally did not support Kits but added the feature recently. So now I can load in some PetSmart sample data too.

Fish Supplies: Aquarium Supplies & Accessories | Petco

Most of the sample data is sourced from Petco. Personally I got most all my supplies from petco so it was a good starting point for me. I am kind of bummed they do not have a "build your tank" feature, but we will see what happens in the future.

Bulk Reef Supply - Making Reefing Fun and Easy - Bulk Reef Supply

When I started Saltwater I found out Petco does not sell sumps. So I supplemented equipment from Bulk Reef Supply. So some of the bigger tank components and saltwater tank components are from bulk reef supply. These include sumps, pumps, skimmers, and powerheads.

Scape It

I mentioned this one on the Scape page. I did not use it myself while planning my tanks, but it seems pretty nice and looks fantastic.

AqAdvisor - Intelligent Freshwater Tropical Fish Aquarium Stocking Calculator and Aquarium Tank/Filter Advisor

I mentioned this one on the Stock page. This website was really helpful to me when I was planning my own aquariums. I do not know what all logic it uses for its calculations or where it sources its data from, but it is pretty nice.

The right aquarium plants - Tropica Aquarium Plants

I used Tropica to populate most of the plant data. This gives me a single source and consistent properties across not only petco plants but if/when I expand to other vendors.

Aquarium Plants Factory | Premium Quality Aquatic Plants Online

One field that Tropica does not have is "Nutrient Substrate" so I grab that from Aquarium Plants Factory. Now that I have loaded in a lot of plant data I think they are a little aggressive with their "Required" suggestion. In my personal experience I have grown a lot of plants without a nutrient substrate (all of my tanks actually).

Complete Aquarium Fish, Shrimp, & Snail Profiles

Petco had a lot of consistent properties and data already across their Fish, Snails, and Shrimp. So unlike the plants where I use mostly Tropica and ignore the Petco data, here I use mostly Petco and supplement with Aquadiction. Right now I am mainly pulling hardness range, BestKeptAs, and a few other properties from Aquadiction. However in the future I may switch over to using mostly Aquadiction and ignoring Petco so that I can have consistent data on fish/snail/shrimp across vendors.

Fishkeeping, Aquariums, Care & More | Fishkeeping World

As I loaded in more fish data I did come across a few scenarios in which Petco did not have MinimumRecommendedTankSize and neither did Aquadiction. So I took that data from Fishkeeping World.

LiveAquaria | Quality Aquarium Fish, Supplies & Equipment

I chose LiveAquaria for saltwater stocking water parameters. So the temperature, ph, kh, and sg all come from here. This is also where lighting and waterflow come from. However what low/medium/high mean I took from a forum and I explain that in the Stats section of Guide page.

Home - Shrimp and Snail Breeder

For saltwater stocking I got certain information from here such as minimum tank size, other names, lifespan, etc.

Vivid Aquariums Coral | Hundreds of WYSIWYG and Stock Corals for Sale

For Coral Calcium and Magnesium ranges I took from here.
